Benton County Democrat
Thursday, December 5, 1912

Died, November 30th, 1912, at his residence in Bentonville, Arkansas, Christopher Columbus Huffman, age fifty-seven years, two months and ten days. Deceased was born September 20th, 1855 in Barren county, Kentucky. When three years of age his parents moved from Kentucky to Texas. When thirteen years old they moved to Sebastian county, Arkansas. In 1873 the family, consisting of mother, father and son, came to Bentonville, which was the home of each until death. Huffman's first venture in public life was as teacher. For five years he taught successfully in the public schools in Benton county, mostly in this vicinity. Thirty-two years ago he was married to Miss Georgette Elizabeth Jefferson. To this happy and successful union were born five children - four sons and one daughter. He was elected and served four consecutive terms as Circuit Clerk of Benton county to the satisfaction of the court and the voters of the county. About twenty years ago he professed faith in Christ as his personal Savior and united with the Bentonville C.P. church. He was elected and ordained a ruling elder in the Bentonville church. In the union and reunion of the C.P. church and the Presbyterian he went with the church and was an elder in the united church at the time of his death. Most of his life in our midst, until the last few years, was of a public character. As teacher, officer, as banker, merchant, farmer and citizen, he commanded the confidence of the city and the community. Early in his affliction he had told his loved ones he would not recover. Yet without fear and without murmering he was humbly resigned to the will of God. His faithful and loving companion, two beloved sons, Dr. Kenneth B. and Cargile, the youngest of the family; Miss Annie, their amiable and only daughter; Mrs. Dr. Kenneth Huffman and two little sons survive him - two infants having gone before. The funeral services, held at the residence during a down pour of rain, was well attended by his neighbors, the Masonic fraternity and K. of P.'s. The remains were buried by the Masonic and K.P fraternities at the Jefferson family cemetery.
