Dies As Result Of Traffic Accident Near Norfork
Tommy Funkhouser, 18 residing on the Norfork-Jordan road in Baxter County, received fatal injuries late Friday afternoon, when the light truck he was driving and a truck driven by Noel "Buck" Hively of Dolph, sideswiped, with the result that Funkhouser's left arm was badly crushed and mangled. The young man died in a hospital at Gassville early Saturday morning.
The accident occurred as the two vehicles met on Highway 5, about three miles west of Norfork. Funkhouser was traveling toward Norfork, and the Hively truck was en route to Dolph carrying members of the Dolph ball team, who had been engaged in a game a few hours earlier. Funkhouser was driving with one arm out the window of the truck when he was struck, it was said. He suffered considerable loss of blood before being rushed to Norfork for emergency treatment; and was later rushed to the hospital at Gassville.
