Mrs. Florence Guthrie, 84, of Newport died Friday at Newport Hospital.

Born at Kankakee, Ill., she was a retired first-grade school teacher at Gibbs, Albright and Castleberry schools. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Newport. She earned a bachelor of science degree from Arkansas State University.

Survivors include one son, Gary Guthrie of Troy, Ala.; two daughters, Sally Beth Dolby of Grand Blanc, Mich., and Dr. Ann Guthrie of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one brother, Edward Reno of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Lois Preston of Fresno, Calif.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Cecil Guthrie, and one daughter.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Monday morning at Jackson's Newport Funeral Home with Rev. Rodney Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park Cemetery in Walnut Ridge.

Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Guthrie's grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jerry Frankum and Wallace Steen.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 this afternoon and from 8 Monday morning until service time at the funeral home.

Lasting memorials may be made to Newport First Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Cecil Guthrie Scholarship Fund, co Black River Baptist Association, Hoxie, Ark.
