Ingrid Ursula Cowan, aged 87 years, of Russellville, Arkansas passed away on January 7, 2015, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the end of a long and exciting life. She was born in Berlin, Germany, June 19, 1927 to Willie and Louise (Lamm) Riesebeck. She worked as a model and after World War II was an interpreter for the US Forces in Frankfurt, Germany. Following her marriage to dashing Army soldier, Edward Michael Cowan, she moved to the US and became a US citizen May 1, 1963. Her work life was varied and often depended on her husband being transferred to different locations around the world. Ingrid was a journalist for two different newspapers, a television reporter, and a legal secretary. Two years ago she published her first book, “The Shadow of the Hakenkruez”, her biography of life as a child and teenager during the Hitler years in Germany. Ingrid’s second book, “Heroes in Peace and War: Military Families”, was published in 2013 and her third work, “Godly Thoughts”, a poetry book was published in November of 2014. Wherever she lived and whatever she did, Ingrid always considered her location a mission field and worked tirelessly to convert to Christianity anyone with whom she came into contact. She was a true patriot and wrote extensively to encourage others to support our great nation. She was a Sunday school teacher for 35+ years, a volunteer for the Crisis Pregnancy Center and was a leader in the Widowed Persons Service in Russellville. For the past 10 years she was a volunteer tutor for International college students from various countries. Ingrid proudly supported many worthwhile causes, especially the Wounded Warriors Project. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Michael Cowan; her parents, Willie and Louise (Lamm) Riesebeck; an unnamed twin brother; and one son, Gerald Grady Cowan. Ingrid leaves to mourn her passing: four daughter, Ingrid Patterson of Breese, IL; Rosemarie Grace Morton (Neil) of Conway, AR; Jacqueline Louise Lowe (Michael) of Clarksville, TN; Marianne Elizabeth Pyeatt (Richard) of Mountain Home, AR; and “adopted” daughter, Jannifa Jann Heyward (David) of New Castle, DE. Ingrid’s descendants number 13 grandchildren: Keith Owens (Sherry) of Belleville, IL, Mark Owens (Kristin) of O’Fallon, IL and Kate Owens of O’Fallon, IL; Michael Myrick (Wendy) of Hubert, NC, David Myrick of Dardanelle, AR, Brian Myrick (Adrena) of Pottsville, AR, Rebecca Morton of Little Rock, AR and Jonathan Morton of Conway, AR; Jessica Lowe of Evansville, IN, Brandon Lowe (Leigha) of Las Cruces, NM, and Sean Lowe of Pensacola, FL; Richard “Beau” Pyeatt, Ashley Pyeatt and Jacob Pyeatt all of Mountain Home, AR; and 13 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at The Crow Mountain Baptist Church in Russellville, AR, where Ingrid was a charter member. Bro. Don Rose will officiate. Graveside services will follow at Fluty Cemetery, Gamaliel, AR. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
