WALNUT RIDGE -- Faris Paxton, 85, died Thursday, September 14, 2006, in Jonesboro.

He had lived most of his life in Walnut Ridge. He had taught school for 34 years, 27 of those at Hoxie High School, retiring in 1981. He was a member of Main Street Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ora Fallis Paxton, and his first wife, Velda Allen Paxton.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Aker Paxton; sons, Charles Paxton and Byron Paxton of Jonesboro; daughters, Phyllis Jones of Bono; Mary Tennison of Walls, Miss., and Adele Holmes of Bryant; a brother, Fred Paxton of Jonesboro; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Robert Combs officiating. Burial will follow at Calvin Cemetery near Alicia, under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Mark Paxton, Faris Paxton, Stephen Heard, Nathan Tennison, Beau Tennison, Phillip Brinkley and Nick Atchley.

Honorary pallbearers are Joe Floyd, Fred Stuart, Jake Henry, Ed Baker, Charles Baldridge and Kerry Tribble.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis or Children's Home of Paragould, 5515 Old Walcott Road, Paragould 72450.
