Durward "D.O." Hunter Jr., 90, of Roland passed from this life early Sept. 23, 2018. D.O. was born May 1, 1928, to Derward and Pearl (Ware) Hunter. He entered the U.S. Navy as soon as he graduated high school, serving in the Navy Air Corp aboard the U.S.S. Valley Forge. After his service in World War II, he worked in sales and eventually retired from Roberts and Son Salvage. He was a truck driver, had owned several service stations and was mayor of Muldrow at one time. He came to love Mustang cars.
He is survived by his wife, Alyene Owens Talkington-Hunter of the home; two children, Michael Dee Hunter and his wife Pamela of Roland and Donna Kay Edwards and her husband Danny of Muldrow; three stepchildren, Judy Leigh Puckett of Lavaca, George Talkington and his wife Tonya of Charleston and Tracie Parker and her husband Tim of Lavaca; eight grandchildren, Gerry Wayne Stewart and wife Traci, Shawn Hunter and wife Melina, Lance Hunter and wife Jennifer, Jacob Talkington, Jayda Gilcrease, Jay Daniel Puckett, Kody Balliew and Ashley Balliew; seven great-grandchildren, Hunter Stewart, Colton Stewart, Jacob Moses, Hadley Stewart, Lynnzie Hunter, Brooklyne Hunter and Brittany Hunter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a wife, Betty Lois Roberts Hunter; sister, Paula Hunter Boyd; brother, Leo Hunter; and a stepdaughter, Terry Alyene Balliew.
Private family services for Mr. Hunter will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Forever Memories Funeral Service, 463505 OK - 101, Sallisaw.
