James Michael "Westy" Westfall, age 69, of Hot Springs, died Wednesday, April 22, 2015.
He was born on July 18, 1945 at Hot Springs, the son of James H. "Bill" Westfall and Jackie Hughes Westfall. On February 27, 1965, he was married to Hunlin "Sheryl" Robbins.
He served eight years in the United States Navy. A Vietnam veteran, he served in a special unit known as the Brown Water Navy, which was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. He was awarded three Bronze Stars, Combat Action Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Events Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. After leaving the Navy, he enlisted in the Army Reserve where he served as Chaplain in Corinth, Mississippi for five years. He was discharged with the rank of Major. He pastored churches in Arkansas and Mississippi for thirty years and was a member of the Winan Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Hunlin "Sheryl" Westfall of Hot Springs; his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Skeez Rosamond of Hot Springs; two sisters and their spouses, Yolonda and Glenn Wright of Pearcy and Randa and James Wacaster of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his brother-in-law and his spouse, Wayne and Sylvia Robbins of St. Charles, Missouri; and his nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 26, 2015, in the Winan Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Jessie Burkett and Bro. Herbert Watts officiating.
Visitation will be Saturday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.
Interment with military honors will be conducted in Morning Star Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
