Nelda Jean Runyan Wood, 81, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away July 11, 2019. She was born March 16, 1938, in Amity, Arkansas, to Clark and Margie (Gardenhire) Runyan. Nelda retired from Kroger and later volunteered as the Bingo Caller for the Salvation Army. She loved traveling, was a former singer with the Sweet Adaline’s, and enjoyed dancing, including square dancing, ballroom dancing, and line dancing. Nelda was the life of the party and lit up a room wherever she went. Nelda was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 59 years, William C. Wood; and sister, Francis Berry. Survivors include sons, Clift Wood (Gail), Billy Wood, Matt Wood (Heather); daughter, Katie Hammel (John), Nancy Wood; brothers, Bobby Ray Runyan, Billy Joe Runyan (Wanda); grandchildren, Amy Teague, Lana Davis, Erica Hammel, Billy Wood (Jessica), Carl Wood (Nikki), Reid Mobley, Kristen Johnson (Joe), Josh Ferguson (Sabrina); great-grandchildren, Katelyn Davis, Sadie Wood, Ann Marie Wood, Brody Wood, Emalee Johnson, Calvin Ferguson, Ashlynn Ferguson, Benjamin Ferguson; numerous nieces, nephews, and church family at Morning Star Methodist Church; and her “partner in crime”, Betty Jane Veazey. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home. A celebration of Nelda’s life will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Morning Star Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Cemetery. Pallbearers include Sandy Walker, Randy Rowland, Joe Johnson, Reid Mobley, Billy Don Wood, and Dustin Brymer. Honorary pallbearers are Earnest Turpen, John Walker, Jimmy Hutzel, and Warren Stiles. Special thank you to CHI St. Vincent 5 West and Arkansas Hospice doctors and nurses for taking special care of our mom. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Morning Star Methodist Church.
