September 17, 1923 - December 4, 2014
Married: February 9, 1945
Freeda Choe Cook McCrory, 91, of Hot Springs, died December 4, 2014. She was born in Caddo Gap, Arkansas on September 17, 1923 to the late Oad and Bell Cook. Freeda moved from Gaddo Gap to the “big city” of Hot Springs in the fall of 1944. She worked at several places, including restaurants (she said she was not a good waitress because she could not remember the orders!) and a Laundromat. Freeda met her future husband, Alton McCrory, in the winter of 1944, who was on military leave for R&R in Hot Springs. They were married in Hot Springs on February 9, 1945. Alton returned to Hot Springs after being honorably discharged in September 1945, and began a career as an electrician. Freeda became a full time homemaker, and raised her two sons Jerry and Phillip in a loving home. She was active in Second Baptist Church, the PTA, and participated in Cub Scout activities for her sons. Freeda was fondly known for her cooking, canning, sewing, quilting, and crocheting skills. She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-eight years, parents, two brothers and two sisters. Freeda is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-laws Jerry and Julia McCrory of Hot Springs and Phillip and Debbie McCrory of Dallas, Texas. She had four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Freeda is also survived by her sisters Ruby Willis, Ruth Monahan, Imogene Knapp, and Louise Campbell. The family extends special thanks to the staff of Quapaw Care and Rehabilitation Center for their loving care over the past two years as caregivers. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. December 8, 2014, at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. December 9, 2014 at Morning Star Cemetery.
