Alton “Red” D. McCrory, 92, of Hot Springs, died Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Alton was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi on August 4, 1919 to James and Willie McCrory. Alton served in the US Army in WWII, and spent most of his service time in the Aleutian Islands. While on military leave in Hot Springs in the winter of 1944-45, he met his future wife, Freeda Choe Cook, and they were married in Hot Springs on February 9, 1945. Alton returned to Hot Springs after being honorably discharged in September 1945, and began a career as an electrician, joining Former Local Union 619 IBEW. His union electrical work took him and his family to work sites in Paducah, Kentucky, and Oak Ridge, Tennessee. After leaving the union, Alton successfully operated his own electrical contractor business, McCrory Electric, for over 30 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Freeda, and sons and daughters-in-law Jerry and Julia McCrory of Hot Springs, and Phillip and Debbie McCrory of Dallas, Texas. He had four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother G.W. McCrory of Lepanto, and his sister Juanita Marter of Benton. The family extends special thanks to Ilie and Oltea Hozan for their loving care over the past 2-1/2 years as caregivers in the Veterans Administration home care system. Visitation is 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home. Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, at Morning Star Cemetery.
