Joe Warren Williams, 72, of Van Buren died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at his home. He attended Oklahoma A & M (now Oklahoma State University), was a fifth generation dairyman and director of the American Milk Producers Association. Williams was a member and deacon of the Van Buren First Baptist Church, a Gideon and former member of the Van Buren Rotary Club. His family was selected District Farm Family of the year in 1967. Memorial service was held on Friday, May 19, 2000, at Van Buren First Baptist Church under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren. A private burial is requested by the family at Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Smith. He is survived by his wife, Betty; two daughters, Elizabeth Williams Jones of Van Buren and Susan Williams Doshier of Dallas; one son, Fred Owen Williams of Van Buren; two sisters, Rose Ann Boster and Eunice Sonneman, both of Van Buren; two brothers, the Rev. Fred Williams of Owasso, Okla., and Jack Pearson of Livonia, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Source: "The Times Record Obituary Archives." September 12, 1929 - May 7, 2020
Betty Owen Williams was born to Perry and Martha Gladden Owen on September 12, 1929, and lived in rural Crawford County her entire life.
She passed May 7, 2020.
She was Salutatorian of Van Buren High School Class of 1947 and spent her years in faithful service to her family, her church, and her community. She married Joe W. Williams in 1948 and they enjoyed fifty-two years together before his passing in 2000. After years of dairy farming, they established Village Florist, which later became Williams Florist, and spent many years spreading joy and comfort to their customers.
Betty is survived by her children Elizabeth Jo Williams of Van Buren, Fred Owen Williams (Shirley) of Van Buren, and Susan Lynn Doshier (Wade) of Dallas, Texas, nine grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren, including two sets of twins. She is also survived by her sister Ann Clegg (Dorcy) and brother John Owens (Jane) of Van Buren. Betty enjoyed many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her son Stephen, her grandson Jackson Williams, her sister Ada Johnson, and her brother James Perry Owen.
Betty was an active member of First Baptist Church of Van Buren and The Gideons Auxiliary. She participated in the Open Hands Ministry of her church.
Betty will be laid to rest alongside her husband, son and grandson in Roselawn Cemetery. The burial will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren.
