Earl Morris Burdine, 85, of Magnolia, AR passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the Magnolia Regional Medical Center in Magnolia.
Earl was born October 22, 1930 in Magnolia, AR to the late Ben Franklin Burdine and Irene (Camp) White. He served as a Seaman 2nd Class in the United States Navy. Earl was a hard worker starting his company Burdine's Construction in 1969 and worked until 2014. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness for 41 years and was active in the Magnolia Boys and Girls Club
Earl was an avid hunter, fisherman, farmer and sports fan. He worked on the "chain gang" for numerous years for the Magnolia Panthers. When he became too ill to go to the game he listened to the Panthers on the radio every Friday night.
Both sons loved baseball and when the American Legion Team didn't have a field to play on he built one of the finest on his land on County Road 405. He helped build the Magnolia Boys Club where it is now. He built fences, overhead covering, back stops, and set the flag pole all at his own expense. Due to his hard work he was awarded the "Man of the Year". He also built the goal post and the practice field fence for the Magnolia Panthers and they are still in use today.
Earl is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 67 years Betty Ann Burdine; brothers Roy Burdine and Otis Burdine; and grandson Shane Michael Burdine.
Left behind are his sons Denny Burdine and wife Judy of Nash, TX and David Burdine of Magnolia, AR; daughters Brenda Thornton and husband Billy "Corky" of Magnolia, AR and Gigi Baucum and husband Harper of Stamps, AR; grandchildren Sean Wingfield and wife Amber of Magnolia, AR; Chance Thornton and wife Ashley of Magnolia, AR, Chad Turner and wife Anee of Magnolia, AR, Trey Baucum and wife Kayla of Fayetteville, AR, Lori Pharr and husband Lonnie of Malvern, AR, Brooke Prescott and husband Colter of Magnolia, AR, and Jennifer Tyler and husband Joe of Nash, TX; great grandchild Courtney and Hannah Pharr of Malvern, AR, Skiler Wingfield of Magnolia, AR, Abbie Wells of Magnolia, AR, Trenton and Logan Turner of Magnolia, AR, Zoe and Willow Baucum of Fayetteville, AR, Price, Mackson, and Emmy Prescott of Magnolia, AR, and Tallulah James Thornton of Magnolia, AR; and best friends Curtis Lewis, James Camp, Royce Burdine and Billy Floyd Camp.
Pallbearers will be Sean Wingfield, Chad Turner, Trey Baucum, Chance Thornton, Corky Thornton, and Harper Baucum. Honorary pallbearers will be James Bradley, Michael Bradley, Colter Prescott, Lonnie Pharr, Curtis Lewis, James Camp, Royce Burdine and Billy Floyd Camp.
Graveside services will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at the Antioch East Cemetery with Frank Jackson officiating and Ellis Farris assisting under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. of Magnolia. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Dr. Fred Murphy and staff for the many years of excellent care and the outstanding staff at Serenity Hospice for the comfort and care given to Earl.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the charity of donor's choice.
