Minnie Etta Carr, 97, of Charleston passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012, in Charleston.
She was born Jan. 5, 1915, in Lavaca to Frank Pruett and Addie Thurman Pruett.
She grew up and attended school in Lavaca. She married Roy Carr of Lavaca on March 21, 1931. They were sharecroppers and moved to California in the 1930s in a Model A Ford. While there, she worked at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home of the west faculty for mentally challenged children and adults as a nurse attendant for 18 years, and after she retired they moved back to Charleston. She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her parents; and four sisters.
Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Smith Mortuary Chapel with interment at Hickory Ridge Cemetery East of Lavaca under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
She is survived by one daughter, Frances Morgan of Little Rock; one foster son, Buddy Carr of Branch; two granddaughters, Wendy Hudgeons of Bryant and Dana Morgan Rideout and husband Paul of Aikens, S.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Mike Hudgeons, Sam Kizer, Jack Masterson, Rusty Masterson, Sammy Kizer and John Hill.
