July 23, 1933 - April 17, 2017
Margaret Isobel Warren Griffith, 83 of El Dorado passed away on April 17, 2017 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House. She was born July 23, 1933 to Ernest and Henrietta Gattenby Warren in Romford Essex England and later moved to Manchester where she grew up.
She was a child during World War II and enjoyed sharing her stories of taking gas masks to school, evacuations, rations and how close her family was during this time. She attended the local schools and after completion she worked for the British Postal Service as a Telephone/Telegraph Operator. She met and married Claude “Buddy” Griffith who was serving in the US Air force; upon his discharge they returned to his native South Arkansas. After her arrival she was introduced to other war brides and joined the group known as “the English Girls” developing lifelong cherished friendships.
As an active member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church she was an office volunteer, served on the Altar Guild and was a member of the St. Hilda’s Guild. She was also a Pink Lady volunteer at the Medical Center of South Arkansas as well as Life Touch Hospice. She retired from Garrett’s Furniture after 30 years and truly enjoyed meeting and helping people.
Margaret was incredibly proud of her four children, Dr. Keitha S. Griffith (Grant Kneebone) of Maumelle, Steven (Donna) Griffith of Bryant and twins Heather (Ricky) McGarity of El Dorado and Holly (Rick) Bauman of Smackover. She was also a very loving and devoted Nana to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Cody (Leslie) Bauman, Henry Todd and Nelle Averie of West Monroe, LA; Bryan Griffith of Little Rock, Maggie (David) Guarno of Miramar Beach, FL and Emily McGarity of Magnolia. Also surviving is her brother Keith (Marilyn) Warren and Cousins Anne (Frank) Tyrer and Roy Middleton all of Manchester England as well as her nieces, nephews and cousins throughout the U.S., England, and Australia.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 20 from 5:00-8:00pm at Young’s Funeral Home with a Requiem Mass at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 21 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with Father Charles Chapman and Father Bob Allen officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery.
