Katharine GREEN

Bethesda Cemetery
Ouachita County,
Arkansas

April 26, 1921 - November 5, 2012

Katharine R. Green passed peacefully in her sleep on November 5, 2012. She is survived by her son Mark Green and wife Marilyn of Houston and stepson Jerry Green and wife Laurie, also of Houston; sister, Francis Miller of Kirby, Arkansas; grandchildren, Katharine E. Green, Alana Tobian, Lee Green and Michelle Green and by her great grandson, Meyer Tobian. She was preceded in death by her mother Katharine Rennicks and father James Rennicks, by her sisters Rose Rennicks and Pat Rennicks and by her dear son, David M. Green. Katharine (Kay) was born in 1921 in Camden, Arkansas. As a child she and her family moved to La Porte, Indiana during the Great Depression. They survived the cold winters there and at times waited in freezing soup lines for a meal. These experiences and her simple Arkansas roots would help shape her life view as an authentic, non-materialistic person. After the Depression, the family returned to Arkansas. During WWII, she worked at a munitions plant in Little Rock, serving her country. After the war she met and married Lee M. Green, and became a full time wife and mother. In 1963 the family moved to Conroe, Texas, where she really settled in to her own. She particularly loved playing tennis with her friends and was a great mother. After divorcing in 1973, she returned to the work force, becoming a secretary for Traveler's Insurance in Houston. She worked there until retiring in Conroe to the home she had built for herself and for her sister and mother to live in. Throughout it all, she lived selflessly, mostly helping others and of course, caring for her beloved cats. After some poor health, she spent the last four years of her life at Park Manor of Conroe, where the staff treated her like family. The family will hold private services at a future date.
