Lawrence Bratton, age 72, of Hot Springs Village, AR, formerly of Camden, died Wednesday, December 14, 2011 after a 6 year battle with cancer. He was born November 28, 1939 in Dardanelle, AR to the late Ben and Lela Bratton. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dodi Biggers as well as 2 brothers and 6 sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Peggy, daughters Debbie (Johnny) Brown of Camden, Lynne Walters of Hot Springs Village, Leigh (Jerry) Brown of Cabot and his sister, Mikki Strickland of Russellville. He is also survived by 17 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Bratton served in the U.S. Air Force for a little over 8 years. He was an Airborne Combat Crew Member, Radar Operator based in Sacramento, CA. He flew nearly 3,000 hours including 57 Combat Missions in Viet Nam in 1965. While there he was exposed to Agent Orange. He was discharged from the Air Force in May, 1966 and joined the Stockton, CA Police Department 1 week later. He was with the police department for nearly 8 years. In 1973, he moved the family to Arkansas and joined the Camden Police Department as a patrolman in December. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1975, Lieutenant in 1976 and Chief of Police in 1977. He retired as Chief of Police in 1981. He completed many specialized training classes in Stockton, Camden and the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA and graduated with Honors from Delta College in Stockton, CA.
He was First Vice President of Arkansas Association of Chiefs of Police, past President Camden Evening Lions Club, Member of Arkansas Chapter of FBI National Academy, and Master Mason Camden Lodge #11. He retired from civilian work at 62 and traveled with his wife as his health permitted. He was a member of First Christian Church in Camden since 1977 and a current member of Village Christian Church in Hot Springs Village.

The family wishes to express gratitude for prayers and concerns these past 6 years. A special thanks to Mandie Vaughn with Dierksen Memorial Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to DAV or Dierksen Memorial Hospice in Hot Springs Village, AR. He was a beautiful sweet man who will be greatly missed and is now safe in the Arms of Jesus.

Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Proctor Funeral Home. Services will be Saturday at 2 PM at Proctor Chapel with Don Longino officiating. Burial will be at Bethesda Cemetery in Camden.
