Dec 15, 1944 - May 3 2021
Kathryn “Kay” L. Walker, 76, of Jacksonville, passed away May 3, 2021. She was born December 15, 1944 on the Naval Base in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Robert and Barbara (Johnson) Rourke.
Kay grew up travelling frequently because of her father’s military career. One memory she vividly remembered was Vice President Nixon visiting while she was living in Venezuela. She graduated high school in Long Beach, California, then moved to New York and attended Cazenovia College where she met her future husband, Lewis Walker. They were the best of friends since February 1964, and married on June 17, 1967. She worked at Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield until retiring in December 2010. Retirement had been good to her until recent health problems intervened. She loved to visit her daughters and their children and was a member of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
Kay is survived by her husband of fifty-three years, Lewis M. Walker; daughters, Deborah (Andrew) Herd and Jennifer (Richard) Luce; grandchildren, Christopher Herd, Michael Herd, Josselyn Luce and Taryn Luce and brother, Thomas Rourke.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 10, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Jacksonville. Visitation will be one hour prior, 10:00 a.m., at the church. Kay will be laid to rest at Chapel Hill Memorial Park immediately following the service. Arrangements by Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home, (501) 982-2136.
