TINER, Polly MITCHELL - {from Central} Again the death angels have visited our community and taken away from our midst a precious mother -Mrs. Bennett Tiner. Polly Mitchell was born in Anderson Co., Tenn. Oct. 24, 1836. In October 1852 she came to Benton County with her parents and settled on Pea Ridge and on March 3, 1853 she was united in marriage to Bennett Tiner. This bond of matrimony was ever reverenced and held dear and sacred in the heart of each until death came on the morning of March 12 at 1:45. To this union was born 13 children, 7 boys and 6 girls, all who lived to be grown men and women except one who died in infancy in 1870. Those present at her bed side in her last hours were: A.P. and J. Tiner of Garfield, J.L. Tiner, an employee of the Frisco, Miss Edna Tiner, Mrs. Nannie Parker and Mrs. Lucinda Ruddick of Garfield, Mrs. Polly Pollock of Rogers, Mrs. Dea Lawrence of Great Bend, Kansas and Mrs. Bettie Rogers of Mountain, Mo. Wm. C. Tiner of Artesia, Calif. and S.B. Tiner of Wichita, Kan. were absent. She confessed Christ as her Savior and was immersed, uniting with the Free Will Baptist church in which she lived a devoted Christian life. She was not only devoted to Christ but to her husband and children and was ready at all times to assist the sick, poor and afflicted. Her door was always open and her table fed the unfortunate ones that came her way saying that God's will should be done and turn not the hungry from your door. The funeral service was conducted at the Liberty church house by Rev. Y.A. Gilmore of Pea Ridge. The bereaved family have our deepest sympathy.

TINER, Bennett - Bennett Tiner died Friday night July 14th at his home 21/2 miles east of Brightwater. The funeral services were conducted Sunday by Elder W.J. Taylor and he was buried in the Liberty cemetery. Mr. Tiner was the father of Mrs. James Pollock of this city and as he was one of the oldest settlers in this part of the country he had a large circle of friends and was well liked by those who knew him. The following obituary was written by Geo. Williams: Uncle Bennett Tiner was born in Washington Co., Ark., near Cane Hill, Jan. 9, 1826. His father moved to Arkansas river and when Bennett was five years old settled on Little Sugar Creek, 2 1/2 miles east of Brightwater. On this farm Uncle Bennett was raised and lived continuously for 80 years. He was probably the oldest real Arkansan in the state. On March 3, 1853 he was married to Polly Mitchell and to this union was born thirteen children, eleven of whom are living: A.P. and J.T. Tiner of Garfield; J.L. Tiner, an employee of the Frisco railroad; Mrs. Lucinda Ruddick, Mrs. Nannie Parker, Miss Edna Tiner of Garfield; Mrs. Dea Lawrence of Seward, Kan.; Mrs. Polly Pollock of Rogers; Mrs. Bettie Roberts of Mountain, Mo.; W.C. Tiner of Artesia, Calif. and S.B. Tiner of Wichita, Kan. In 1881 Uncle Bennett professed a hope in Christ and joined the Freewill Baptist church with which body he lived a faithful and devoted Christian life until death called him July 14th, 1911, having reached the ripe old age of 85 years, 6 months and 5 days. He was a man with no veneering on his life but lived the simple, plain country life that was in that character of the early settlers of our state. His contribution to the moral frame of not only his own neighborhood but to the country at large was of the very highest type. The state has lost a great pioneer, the children an honorable, attentive father. But they have a life left to them worth patterning from.
