Mar 1, 1864 - July 18, 1947
Passed away Friday July 18, 1947 at the home of Trudie Lawson at Joy,
AR. She was 83. She was born March 1, 1864 near Milan, Tenn and moved
to AK at the age of 6. In 1881 she was married to J.H. Burkett and raised
9 children.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Roy Moss, T.G. Moss, Quitman Scracener,
Jack Roberson, Eudell Burkett and Jewell Hutchinson.
Rev L.C. Langley was in charge of services & Daniel Funeral Home.
Services held Saturday afternoon at 2 PM at the Freewill Baptist Church
near Gravel Hill.
Burial in the Gray Cemetery, White County AR
Survivors are one son, W.G. Burkett of Romance; six daughters, Mrs. G.W.
Stracener, Mrs. T.G. Moss, Mrs. J.W. Roberson, Mrs. Herman Cohorn, Mrs,
Trudie Lawson and Mrs. L. Sohn. ; one brother, R.H. Goodman of Romance.
At death she had 25 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren..
Mary Emily was only 16 when she married, her father and mother hand wrotea note for saying that she was 16. The note is in Book E on page 443, inthe White County Courthouse in Searcy, AR. The witness was W. B. Barker,and they were married by George F. Quattlebaum.
