*Obituary

Helen Wilkene Ingram, born at Harmony, Arkansas, was the daughter of William Clyce and Allie Jaggers Ingram. Helen had a younger sister, Edna Mae Ingram, who was born in 1926.

On August 17, 1946 Helen and her beloved, Buel Lawrence Porter, were married in Johnson County, Arkansas. Buel was the son of Loyce and Ola Miracle Porter of Harmony. She and Buel were the parents of two children; a daughter and a son. Their son Bradley Kent Porter died in infancy when he was only two months old. He was buried in the Harmony Cemetery.

Helen had many fine qualities and she was a lovely, sweet, lady. When customers entered the grocery store that she and her husband owned and operated, she always had a broad smile on her face to greet them warmly.

In the April, 1977 issue of the Johnson County Historical Journal, Helen wrote a lengthy, but interesting article about Edna, Arkansas. Edna was a community near Harmony where Helen's ancestors grew up, worked, and lived. She related stories about the workings of the thriving little community with it's vital businesses and grist mill. Then the Great Depression came along and Edna ceased to be no more than just a spot in the road. But, the town will always be remembered, thanks to Helen's forethought to write that narrative.

When Helen passed away in 1991, she was laid to rest in the Harmony Cemetery.
