Charles
August 21, 1957 - June 27, 2017

Charles Allen Mooney, 59, of Searcy, Arkansas passed Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock, AR. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa in August 21, 1957.

Allen Mooney grew up in DeWitt,Arkansas. At age 13, he was involved in a motorcycle accident left him paraplegic with a thoracic spine injury. Miraculously, a year later, he regained feeling and function and recovered his ability to walk. He then led a charmed teenage life.

Allen was popular and handsome. Girls were attracted to him and he was voted president of his senior class. He played drums and was lead singer in the Long Time Coming Band. He was awarded All-state first choir and All-state first band.

Allen attended college at Henderson University where he majored in music. He transferred to UCA for his pre pharmacy prerequisites. He served in the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity where he continued his social success. He was a good student and graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Pharmacy.

His father, Don Mooney, was a career church musician and virtuoso keyboardist. With Allen’s distinctive tenor voice and musical talent, he incorporated Allen into almost daily musical ensembles. For many years Allen was a faithful member of Searcy First United Methodist Church choir, singing many solo’s along the way. He was a member of several gospel quartets, including Men of Song. He loved to play his trombone, piano and guitar. In spite of his affliction, Allen forged through the challenges of mental illness to sing and play the Lord’s Praises in front of many, sometimes large audiences.

He had impeccable fashion sense. He loved his Schnauzers. He was a kind, gentle man who was connected and concerned with the wellbeing and successes of his nephews, nieces and their children.

It seemed the Lord chose a peculiar, more difficult path for his servant. With the unwavering support of his parents, Don and Colleen Mooney, Allen had a full life of accomplishment. He loved his Lord, worshipped him in spite of his difficulties, and was given an incredible gift of music to give his unforgettable testimony.

He was predeceased by father, Don Mooney and his grandparents Roy and Emma Mooney and Leon and Delores Rickard. He is survived by his mother Colleen Mooney and siblings Keith (Donna) Mooney and their children, Jordan and Madison Mooney, Kathryn (Roger) Counce, and their children, Christopher (Kortney) Counce and Andrew (Toni) Counce, and Daniel Mooney and his children, Virginia Grace, Jack and Nathaniel Mooney and three grand nephews and two grand nieces.
