H. T. Pratt, 74, of the Strong Highway died Friday morning in a local nursing home. A lifetime resident of Union County, he was generally recognized as one of the most prominent farmers in the area, Specializing in sweet potatoes, he developed a number of new specimen and headed immense marketing facilities of that product several decades ago. He was known to many as the "sweet potato king". Born at Old Hillsboro on Dec. 1, 1890, he was the son of Joshua Tatum and Minnie Dearing Pratt. He was a member of the Urbana Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, H. T. Pratt, Jr of El Dorado; four daughters, Mrs. B. F. Harper, Mrs. J. T. Harrison, Mrs. T. E. Haney and Miss Naomi Pratt, all of El Dorado; one brother, Dr. W. C. Pratt of Natchitoches, La.; a sister, Mrs. Alice Murphy of Natchitoches; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Urbana Baptist Church with the Rev. S. M. Williamson officiating. Burial will be in the Urbana Cemetery under the direction of Pratt Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be J. R. French, Jesse Jones, O. D. Knight, Grady Pratt, Paul Pratt, Mack Pratt, Jared Pratt and O'Neal Mason. Honorary pallbearers will include Judge Carlton Jerry, Joe K. Mahony, Dr. Garland Murphy, Jr., Harry Reeves, Harry Cawthon, R. N. Wooten, H. E. Kelly and Nolan Pratt. The body will remain at the chapel until time for the services.
