George Huey Howard, 69, of Shreveport, La., formerly of Smackover, died Monday in a Shreveport hospital following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. in the Smackover Assembly of God Church with the Rev. W. N. Harris and the Rev. Frank Andrews officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery under the direction of Rumph's. Mr. Howard was born in Union County, Feb. 10, 1905, and was the son of Vernon and Littie Mae McWilliams Howard. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Smackover and Local 708 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ruby Hight Howard of Shreveport; one foster daughter, Mrs. Betty Trahern of Ferriday, La.; three brothers, Pete Howard of Shreveport, John Thomas Howard of Monroe, La., and Otis Gene Howard of Maryville, Tenn.; and three sisters, Mrs. Neva Hodges of Shreveport, Mrs. Myrtice Weaver and Mrs. Verna Haven, both of Tatum, Tex. (El Dorado News-Times - August 28, 1974)
