Victim Of Drowning Is Recovered

The body of the first drowning victim at Cobb Creek Reservoir was recovered about 8 p.m. Saturday after a search of several hours by highway patrolmen, Anadarko firemen, and rescue units from Clinton and Oklahoma City.

James Martin, 26, a navy recruiter stationed in Oklahoma City, sank out of sight in 12 feet of water as he swam toward a rubber raft occupied by his son. Rescue workers said Martin apparently stepped from waist-deep water into a deep hole. The raft drifted approximately 200 feet to the shore.

Martin, his family and three other Oklahoma City families had gone to the lake to water ski. The drowning victim sank about a half-mile above the reservoir dam on the west side of the lake. His body was recovered by a skin diver near the point he went down.

The drowning incident was the most tragic during the long holiday weekend, but the Tri-County area escaped without an increase in it highway traffic toll.

Despite the heavy traffic during the weekend, not a major wreck was reported in this area.
Funeral services for the drowning victim were held at Batesville, Ark.
