Obituary
Cliff Martin, 89, of Batesville died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, in a Batesville hospital.
Born July 23, 1922, in Kittle, he was the son of Frank and Susie Smith Martin. He had a bachelor's degree in engineering. He retired after 33 years of service as a civil engineer with the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. He was a former board member of the White River Housing Authority, was a registered land surveyor and sold real estate for The Property Shoppe for 10 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Jane Coggins on Nov. 24, 1945. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting with his son and grandsons, raising flowers, his family and laughing. He was a charter member of the Compass Church. He was ordained as a deacon at the age of 26 in Ash Flat.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years; a son, Curtis Martin of Batesville; three daughters, Alice Jones of Richardson, Texas, and Jo Wright and Betty Gail Jones, both of Batesville; eight grandchildren, Ken Jones, Steve Jones, Luke Wright, Dan Wright, Jacob Martin, Jackie Martin, Kelly Parks and Lacey Moore; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Pauline Martin of Fresno, Calif.; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alfred Martin, Rupert Martin and Kenneth Martin; and three sisters, Tressie Tucker, Bessie Martin and Irene Waits.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chad Grigsby officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Martin, Luke Wright, Dan Wright, Ken Jones, Steve Jones, Aaron Parks, Bart Turner and Austin Jones.
Honorary pallbearers are his nephews and Dr. Doug Bernard.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
