Marshall Matthews the husband of Opal Faye "Mama Faye" (Brooks) Matthews. Marshall Matthews the son of Benjamin Franklin Matthews and Martha Susan (Davis) Matthews. Opal Faye "Mama Faye" (Brooks) Matthews the daughter of William Lee Brooks and Leatha Eliza (Calvert) Brooks.

COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Faye Matthews, 88, a lifelong resident of Northeast Arkansas, died Monday, May 29, 2006, at Homeplace Assisted Living Facility of Columbus, Miss.

Mrs. Matthews was born Sept. 3, 1917, in Hancock to the late William Lee Brooks and the late Letha Calvert Brooks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Marshall Matthews, her husband of 58 years, as well as three brothers, Carl, Ardell and Adolph Brooks and her twin sister, Mae Davenport.

She was a dedicated wife and mother. She had great pride in her grandchildren and was known to all as Mama Faye. She was a faithful member of Fisher Street-Highland Drive Baptist Church and ASU Faculty Wives Club. Her serenity, courage and quiet strength inspired all who knew her. She will be remembered and honored forever for her beauty, kindness and grace.

Survivors include her children, Franklin and Jo Ann Matthews of McAlpin, Fla., Woody and Junie Matthews of Columbus, Miss., and Sue and Joe Moore of Georgetown, Texas; sister, Pearl Williams of Lake City; brother, Bearl Brooks of Tampa, Fla.; grandchildren, Franklin Matthews, Lee Ann Mayhall, Frederick Matthews, Marcy Moore Johnson, Dwight Moore, Deena Matthews McIntyre, Libby Matthews, and Andrew Matthews; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette on at 2 p.m Thursday, June 1.

A Celebration of Life will follow at 3 p.m. Graveside service and interment will be at Hope Cemetery in Imboden on Friday, June 2, at 11 a.m.
