Mona Joy Phillips passed away peacefully in Memphis, Tennessee on July 13, 2017. She was 84 years old. Mona was born to the late Russell Gaines and Imogene (Garner) Gaines on June 25, 1933. She graduated from Blytheville High School in 1951 and Washington University in 1955. She was a physical therapist for over 30 years. Mona was a member of First United Methodist Church in West Memphis. She loved watching John Wayne movies, reading, and spending time with family and friends in fellowship and fun. Mona adored her grandchildren and they were her world. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Phillips; and her son, Scot Phillips. Mona is survived by her daughter, Leanne Smith and son-in-law, Jack Smith of West Memphis; and two grandsons, Jackson Smith and wife Kelli Jo Smith of Benton, Arkansas and Quinton Smith of Fort Worth, Texas. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mona's life at the visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 17th at First United Methodist Church, 215 N. Missouri Street, in West Memphis with funeral services starting at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any remembrances be directed to First United Methodist Church in West Memphis. Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville is in charge of the arrangements.
