When Ellurd Leonard 'Ell' Benton was born on June 17, 1875, in Pleasant Grove, Arkansas, his father, John, was 36 and his mother, Rachel, was 35. He married Louisa Letha Heffington-Benton on December 21, 1898. They had eight children in 14 years. He died on July 1, 1917, in his hometown at the age of 42, and was buried in White, Arkansas.
