Mildred Emogene Wilson, 91 of Searcy went to be with the Lord, Friday, June 17, 2011. She was born in West Point, Arkansas on Thursday, May 13, 1920 to the late J. A. and Abbie Edwards Showalter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Brooks Wilson; her brothers, Merl, Ralph, Harry, Hugh and Russell Showalter; and a sister, Maxine Newton.
Mildred lived a very accomplished life. She graduated from West Point High School; she was a charter member of Grace United Methodist Church in Searcy which later became St. Paul United Methodist Church and she retired from Vickers Incorporated in Searcy. She was an avid sports fan of all sports. During her school years she and her sister Maxine played basketball for the West Point High School Bullfrogs. Later on in her life, she and her husband Carl were long-time members of the Searcy Golf Club which later became The Course at River Oaks. They continued golfing and being members of River Oaks until Carl's death in 1994.
Mildred leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Gail Nier and her husband Wendell of Bald Knob; grandson, Jason Nier and his wife Sheila of Pocahontas; granddaughter, Jenny Ellis and her husband John of Conway; great-grandchildren, Grant, Lauren and Addi Ellis; a brother, Calvin Showalter of Atlanta, Georgia; and a loving companion, Carl Strayhorn of Searcy.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2509 West Beebe-Capps, Searcy, Arkansas, 72143. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m.- 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at the St.Paul United Methodist Church in Searcy with funeral services beginning at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at the White County Memorial Gardens in Searcy.
