When John W Adams was born on July 27, 1900, in Arkansas, his father, James, was 50 and his mother, Mattie, was 25. He married Lula Winkler on August 9, 1919, in Faulkner Township, Arkansas. They had four children during their marriage. He died on November 1, 1972, in North Little Rock, Arkansas, at the age of 72, and was buried in Mayflower, Arkansas.
