William Clarence Holt, Route 3 Alma, Arkansas died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound which was suffered at his home on Thursday, April 26, 1973 according to a ruling issued by Lonnie Jones, Crawford County Coroner. Holt, a resident of the Graphic Community, was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital Sheriff Bill Vickery said, after a discharge from a .22 rifle struck him in the right rib cage. Officers from the Sheriff's department investigated the shooting and an autopsy was performed by the State Medical Examiner. Vickery said information gathered from witnesses and the State Medical Examiner showed the shooting appeared to be self-inflicted. Holt, 61 years old, was born October 17, 1911 at Peno Corner, Oklahoma, the son of George W and Ethel Mae Lea Holt of Alma, Arkansas. He was a member of the Mt Grove Baptist Church and an employee of Alma Canning company. Survivors are his wife, Jane; a son;; his mother Mrs G Holt of Alma; daughter Juanita; two brothers; sisters, Oma, Eula, and Lillian.

Funeral service was held at 2 pm Saturday at Mt. Grove Baptist Church. R E Pixley pastor of the First Freewill Baptist church in Fort Smith officiated. Burial was in Alma City Cemetery and was in charge by Ocker Funeral Home.
