Arthur John Mitchell, 62, an independent oil operator of Smackover, died in a Smackover hospital Tuesday at 10:45 p.m. after a long illness. Mr. Mitchell was born in Amite, La., Feb. 28, 1902, the son of John and Mattie Sanders Mitchell. He moved from Oil City, La., to Smackover in 1924. He was a member of the Sandyland Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Hazel Bowden Mitchell; and three sisters, Mrs. Jamie Bullock of Shreveport, Mrs. C. W. Bibby of Homer, La., and Mrs. Walter Riley of Burke Burnett, Tex. Funeral services have been announced for Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Young's with the Rev. W. J. Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Smackover Cemetery.
