Mr. Claud Edward Bates, age 77, of Ash Flat, AR, died on Monday, July 20, 2015 in Batesville, AR. He was born on June 6, 1938 in Myron, AR to Claud and Cleffie Jackson Bates. Ed was the name that most knew him by, to his grandchildren he was Paw Paw. He was a farmer and a lover of horses.

He is survived by: daughter, Jennifer Robey and husband Andrew of Locust Grove, AR; son, Steve Bates of Ash Flat; mother, Cleffie Jackson Bates of Ash Flat, AR; granddaughters, Jessica Vance and husband Chris of Batesville, AR and C.J. Elumbaugh and Husband Rusty of Batesville, AR; grandsons, Adam Bates and wife Amy of Ash Flat, AR and Dillon Bates of Ash Flat, AR; great grandchildren, Peyton Landreth, Katlin Bates, Robey Landreth, Emma Bates, Ruth Ann Bates, Ryder Elumbaugh, Rixon Elumbaugh, Madelyn Vance and Victoria Vance.

Ed is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; wife, Emma Jo Evans Bates; daughter, Melesa Jo Bates; and son, Marvin Stanley Bates.

A graveside service will be held in the Bates Cemetery in Myron, AR at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 23, 2015 with Lance Hames officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, July 22, 2015.
