Ollie Marie (Gillihan) Bates
Ollie Marie (Gillihan) Bates, daughter of the late James Clem and Rosa Ella Deason Gillihan was born on November 23, 1915 in Boswell. She died September 7, 2001 in Athens, Alabama. She was 85.
Ollie was united in marriage to Oscar Bates, on December 23, 1934. to this union three children were born.
She spent her life as a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. During her working years, she was employed at the Pioneer Nursing Home form 1965 until her retirement in 1980. She was a faithful member of the Belview Baptist Church.
Mrs Bates leaves to mourn her passing; one daughter, Mary Bates Stringer and husband, Phillip of Athens, Alabama; two sons, Russell Bates and wife, Alene of Salem; and Doyne Bates and wife, Belle of Shreveport, Louisiana; one step-daughter, Cletta Lowry and husband, J. B. of Paris, Texas; seven grandchildren and a host of other relatives and many good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, two sisters and three sons; Billy Wayne Bates, Wendell Keith Bates and Gary Linn Bates and two infant children.
Funeral services were held September 10, 2001 at the Belview Baptist Church in Melbourne with Tony Colburn officiating.
Pallbearers were Bob Rector, Glen Williams, Bob Morris, Jerry McFarland, Boyce Gillihan and Lee Watson.
Interment was at the Melbourne Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
