Mrs. Alice Matthews, 96, of 1508 N. Mosby died in a local hospital Monday morning following a long illness. She was born Oct. 16, 1872 in Ouachita County, Ark., and was the daughter of Lawrence and Mary Haltom Elliott. She was a resident of El Dorado for the past 10 years and a member of the First Christian Church of El Dorado. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. J. H. Hicks, Magnolia, Ark., J. E. Blake, Natchez, Miss, Mrs. F. W. Bayles, West Monroe, La., Mrs. W. L. Britt, Kilgor, Tex., and Mrs. F. W. Allbrittion of El Dorado; one brother, Porter Elliott of Stephens, Ark.; one sister, Mrs. Earl Davis, also of Stephens, Ark.; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rumph's Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Allen Abraham and the Rev. Jack Wilson officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Rumph's at the Bethel Cemetery off the Calion Highway. Active pallbearers will be Cliff Britt, Felix Garrett, John Blake, Jimm Allbritton, W. N. Vance, Jr., and Robert Elliott. (El Dorado Times - January 28, 1969)
