Mary Lee Nelson, 91, a resident of Independence, MO passed away peacefully Sunday, June 4, 2017 in Lee’s Summit, MO. She was born November 10, 1925 in Norfork, AR to Tom and Ellen (Simpson) Lackey.
Mary was united in marriage to Marvin Nelson on February 14, 1954 in Kansas City, MO. She enjoyed writing and researching her family’s genealogy.
Survivors include children, Nancy “Jeannie” Near (Tony) of Independence, MO, Terry Nelson (Kim) of Igloolik, NU, Tim Nelson of Silverado, CA, Ted Nelson (Nancy) of Longmont, CA; siblings, Corky McGinnis, Fannie Sanders, Cadamus Lackey, Lynn Lackey, Vista Bowers, Joan Bake, Gwen Hall; grandchildren, Travis Near, Jordan Near (Nicole), Stefanie Nelson, Alex Nelson, Brad Nelson, Russell Nelson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Nelson; parents, Tom and Ellen Lackey; brother, Jack Lackey.
The family will receive friends from 2 – 4:00 p.m., Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St., Blue Springs, MO. A second visitation will be held 10-11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Norfork Church of Christ, 11808 AR-5 South, Norfork, AR. Funeral Service will start at 11:00 a.m., at the church. Burial will follow at the Galatia Cemetery in Galatia, AR.
