CRAWFORD, Adolphus - (from The Prairie Grove Herald) Mr. Adolphus Crawford was instantly killed by lightning Thursday afternoon about 1 o'clock at his home one mile north of Rhea. Mr. Crawford, with his wife and children, were on the back porch of their home and were in conversation with another gentleman, whose name we have not learned, when in the twinkling of an eye a fierce bolt of lightning flashed before them and Mr. Crawford was instantly killed, whether from the lightning striking him or from the shock, we have been unable to learn. None of the other parties on the porch were affected by the lightning. Adolphus Crawford was about 47 years of age and was a son of Robert Crawford of near Rhea. He has three brothers and two sisters - Kird and Oscar Crawford of the Indian Territory; On Crawford of Rhea; Mrs. R.B. Moffit and Mrs. William Medearis of the Territory. He is survived by his wife and two children. Mrs. Crawford was before marriage a Miss Pearson, sister of our townsman, J.B. Pearson. Mr. Crawford was a man of sterling character and stood high in the esteem of all who knew him. His sudden and unexpected death in this manner has cast a gloom over the community. The funeral services were held at his late home at three o'clock this afternoon, conducted by Rev. Griffin. The interment was made in the Crawford graveyard.

CRAWFORD, Robert - (from The Fayetteville Daily) Mr. Robert Crawford of Rhea's Mill, familiarly known as "Uncle Bob." one of the oldest residents of Washington County, having come here when the state was a Territory, fell into the fire on Christmas day and was so badly burned that he died of his injuries the Saturday following the accident. The old man got up in a chair to wind a clock and losing his balance fell into the fire place and remained in the fire until a child gave the alarm to a man in the yard who ran in and pulled him out. He was 84 years old and was very highly respected.
