When Amos M "Columbus" Johnson was born in 1839 in Baker, Georgia, his father, Amos, was 31 and his mother, Catharine, was 38. He married Martha C. Huggins in 1866. They had three children during their marriage. He died as a young father in April 1870 in Conway, Arkansas, at the age of 31, and was buried in Oppelo, Arkansas.
