Jason Purvis, 35, of Prairie Grove was westbound in a black Jeep when he drove onto the shoulder and hit Hildebrand, O'Brien said. The accident occurred about 7:45 a.m.

Purvis was taken to Washington County Detention Center in connection with negligent homicide, reckless driving and driving right of roadway, O'Brien said.

The investigation is continuing, O'Brien said.
