Jogger Hit, Killed On US 62 Highway

A female jogger was hit and killed Tuesday morning while running along U.S. 62 at Little Elm Road near Prairie Grove.

Deborah Hildebrand, 46, of Prairie Grove was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner, said Prairie Grove Police Capt. Jeff O'Brien. Hildebrand was running east on the shoulder, he said.

Jason Purvis, 35, of Prairie Grove was westbound in a black Jeep when he drove onto the shoulder and hit Hildebrand, O'Brien said. The accident occurred about 7:45 a.m.

Purvis was taken to Washington County Detention Center in connection with negligent homicide, reckless driving and driving right of roadway, O'Brien said.

The investigation is continuing, O'Brien said.

FARMINGTON — Deborah Starr Hildebrand, 46, of Farmington passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014, in Prairie Grove. She was born Aug. 22, 1967, in Fayetteville, the daughter of Floyd Renfro and Madelyn Joyce Whitlock Harris.

Deborah was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville.

She attended Asbell Elementary, Ramay Junior High and Fayetteville High School. She went to college at Westminster College in Fulton, Mo., and finished her undergraduate degree in business at the University of Arkansas. She later returned to the U of A to get a master's in education.

She was an extraordinary sister, mother, daughter and wife. She was a talented and gifted artist. She welded jewelry and made quilts with fabric that she dyed herself. She painted and crocheted. She was a novelist and a gardener. She enjoyed spending time with her family camping and kayaking.

Deborah survived some extraordinary obstacles early on and lived to be an inspiration and guiding light to many, many people.

She is preceded in death by her father, Floyd Harris.

She is survived by her mother, Madelyn Harris of Fayetteville; husband, David Hildebrand; two daughters, Lyndsey Anne Starr Smith of Fayetteville and Carolyn Rebecca Hildebrand; brother, Mark Floyd Harris (Tammi) of Fayetteville; two sisters, Tamara Sparrow (Greg) of Fayetteville and Rebecca Harris of New York.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Chapel of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home.

There will be a reception at Central United Methodist Church from 1-2:30 p.m. followed by the funeral service which will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014, with burial to follow in Fairview Memorial Gardens Cemetery, under the direction of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home.
