CHANDLER, Ariz. - Mr. Jon L. Richardson, 49, who was a proud Arkansas native, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, in Chandler. He was born March 19, 1952, in North Little Rock to Grover and Evelyn (Arnold) Richardson.
He was the first black scholarship football player for the Arkansas Razorbacks. He graduated with a master's degree and honors. Jon spent his recent years with his wife, Janice, enjoying their home next to a golf resort in Chandler, where he enjoyed his love of golf and worked for Sprint.
In addition to his wife, Elizabeth Janice Richardson, he is survived by his father, Grover Richardson Sr.; siblings, Faye Fite of Smyrna, Tenn., Grover Richardson Jr. and wife Shirley, Beverly Richardson of Little Rock, Brenda Cooper and husband Cedric, and Pamela Brown and husband Clarence, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, James Richardson and wife Mary of Little Rock. He is also survived by a host of nephews and nieces, an aunt, Mary Bew, and six cousins, special cousin, Erma Louise Huddleson of St. Louis, Mo., and other relatives and friends.
A memorial fund for Jon L. Richardson has been set up at Arvest Bank, Fayetteville branch, in the name of
Janice Tackett Richardson.
Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at Nelson's Funeral Home in Fayetteville, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at Nelsons's Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Fairview Memorial Gardens.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church, 3801 Springer Blvd., in Little Rock.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson's Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
