John Robert Ray, 59, died Tuesday in Fordyce. Born July 9, 1910, in Lockesburg, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ray. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Martha Davis Ray; his parents of Smackover; two sons, Robert L. Ray, El Dorado, and William E. Ray, Pine Bluff; two daughters, Mrs. Franklin Garrett, Texarkana, and Mrs. William Rich, Fordyce; three brothers, Frank Ray and Arthur Ray, both of Smackover, and Carl Ray, Texarkana; and a sister, Mrs. Frank Johnson, Paraloma; and 11 grandchildren. The family will be at the R. L. Ray residence, 1523 E. Main St. Services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Sandyland Baptist Church with the Rev. W. J. Taylor and the Rev. A. W. Waller officiating. Burial will follow at the Smackover Cemetery under the direction of Young's. Active pallbearers will be Stanley Mitchell, Bill Mitchell, James Boyce Johnson, Kelsey Johnson, Richard Beck, Sam Beck, Dennis Ray, Donald Ray and Kenneth Ray, all nephews of Mr. Ray. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Shoupe, E. C. Atkinson, W. T. Rich, William Sanders and W. A. Rich. (El Dorado Times - October 15, 1969)
