Arkie was killed when her mother threw a lamp of wood alcohol that had exploded out the door of their home. Arkie was sitting on the porch and was struck in the back with the flaming lamp. Daughter of George Washington Burris and Mary Mathilda Wharton and one of twelve children born to them.
