Mrs. Charles Wallis Slaughter, a life-long resident of Camden, died Thursday. Funeral plans are incomplete, but will be announced by Bradford Mortuary. Mrs. Slaughter was a teacher in the Camden School System for many years and began her teaching career in one of the schools that occupied a site near the present Carver Elementary School. She later taught in one of the buildings near the site of Lincoln High School. She was transferred to Northside School where she was principal for several years. She retired in 1969 after a teaching career spanning over 40 years. She will be remembered by her students who called her "Miss Charles". She is survived by her husband, Warren L. Slaughter, and two sisters, Mrs. Frances W. Fonsoulin and Miss Ruth C. Walls. She was also a life-long member of St. James AME Church and a Sunday school teacher for many years.
