Bernice Elizabeth Carmical Jones, a resident of the Sacramento/Elk Grove area for 10 years, died Dec. 3, 2013 at the age of 90.
She was born Feb. 3, 1923 in Arkansas, and was described by her family as the strong, supportive presence behind her husband's successful career as an insurance executive by being his secretary, social organizer and hostess for their many events.
The couple traveled across the United States over 70 times in their RV, leading RV'ing clubs to and from Mexico and coast to coast in the U.S.
Her family said, “A woman of grace and spirit, Bernice lived life to the fullest with her husband of 70 years, Paul A. Jones, who preceded her in death in 2010. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she loved RV'ing, bridge and crossword puzzles. 'Nana' or 'BJ', as she was affectionately known, always had a beautiful smile and a sweet, loving way.”
Mrs. Jones is survived by her children, Paul Allen Jones (Margie) of Wilton and Peggy Mitchell (Jess) of Americus, Ga.; and brother, Bill T. Carmical (Audre) of Florence, Ore. Grandchildren include Mandy Branton (Lyle) and Amy Wright (Billy) of Georgia, Guy Jones (Kayti) of Citrus Heights and Brett Jones (Jill) of Sacramento; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to a Remembrance of Life reception at the Paul Jones residence Saturday, Dec. 14 from noon to 3 p.m. at 9777 Tavernor Road, Wilton.
Remembrances may be made to Inner Wheel Children's Myroelectric Limb Project, IWUSA Foundation, P.O. Box 3414, Haines City, FL 33845-3414.
