Leo Gregory Selig was the son of Adam Frederick Selig and Leona Theresa Pierron. He was born on August 8, 1915. His siblings included Leona Marie Selig, Anthony Sylvester Selig, Joseph Ignatius Selig, Frederick Alphonse Selig, and Theresa Magdalene Selig Vadnais. Greg met Myrtle Lee Turner when she began her teaching career in Stuttgart, AR after graduating from Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) in 1938. The couple married in 1944. They were the parents of Susan Ann Selig of Conway and Nancy Selig Holyfield of Nashville, TN. The family returned to Conway in 1954. Greg was a member of First Baptist Church and worked as a manager for the Sherwin-Williams Co.

Myrtle Lee Selig, 89, passed away in Conway, Monday, June 11, 2007, after a long illness. She was born September 27, 1917, to the late M. Crite and Nola Crye Turner. Her husband of 49 years, Greg Selig, preceded her in death. (1993). Sisters Ruth Randle, Louise Abernathy, Gladys Dow, Emma Gene Logan, and brother Coy Turner also preceded her in death.

She is survived by daughter, Susan Selig of Conway and daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Wayland Holyfield of Nashville, TN; grandchildren Greg Holyfield and Lee Holyfield, Nashville, TN and Marine Lt. Mark Holyfield of Camp LeJeune, NC. Survivors also include sister-in-law Lorine Turner of Conway and nieces LeJean Hart of Conway, Mary Lee Scroggin of Conway, Laura Soper of Ada, OK, Patricia Vadnais of Nashville, TN and Lindy Hardin of Lebanon, TN. Two nephews Malcolm Turner of Dallas, TX and Ronnie Abernathy of Enid, OK, also survive her.

Mrs. Selig was renowned for her contributions to public education having served nearly four decades working in that field. She began her teaching career in Stuttgart, AR after graduating from Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) in 1938. She was the assistant girl's basketball coach and leader of the school choral group. She also met and married her husband, Greg, while in Stuttgart. Upon returning to Conway in 1954 she worked for a year as secretary for H. L. Minton in the extension office at ASTC. The next year she was hired by the Conway School District and began a career in education that spanned 4 decades. She returned to the UCA in 1968 and earned an MSE in history. During her teaching career she taught geography, English and history, first in Junior High and then in Conway High School In 1975 she became the first dean of girls at the high school. She retired in 1981. In 1983 she was elected to the Conway School District's Board of Education, becoming the first former teacher to serve in this capacity. She was quoted as saying; "I wanted to bring a teacher's point of view to the board. The board was made up mostly of businessmen, but I had been in the trenches." She served on the board for more than 9 1/2 years serving as chairman her last year. Mrs. Selig was an avid fan of the UCA Bears and tried never to miss football and basketball games. She served on the UCA Alumni Board for ten years, becoming president of that board in 2000, serving two terms. In 2005, she was honored when an endowed scholarship in her name was established as a tribute to her impact on education in central Arkansas. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a full-time UCA junior or senior who graduated from Conway High School and has been accepted into the College of Education's secondary education program.

Mrs. Selig was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served as interim choir director on occasion. She was active in numerous civic organizations. In 1992 B & PW named Mrs. Selig their Woman of Achievement. For many years she was a volunteer at Conway Regional Medical Center where she enjoyed running into many of her former students. She also knitted hundreds of baby caps for the newborns in the hospital nursery. In 2003 Mrs. Selig received the Connections Award from UCA, The award was developed to honor College Square residents who are involved with College Square activities, UCA campus events and show have made significant contributions to the community or society.

The family would like to thank her many caring friends at the UCA Alumni Association, College Square and in the Conway community for their continued love and support during her illness. A note of appreciation also goes to her long time care givers, Linda Mayer, Melissa and Duncan Height and Candace Brewer.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Conway's First Baptist Church with Dr. R. Dale Wicker, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Visitation is Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway.

Pallbearers for the service will be James Clark, Fletcher Lowrey, Dr. Audie Lynch, John Robbins, Bob Scroggin and Kenneth Wilcox.
