REVEREND JAMES T. FLEMING Reverend James Travis Fleming, 84, of Raymore, MO passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the Rehabilitation Center of Raymore. A memorial service will be held at One Spirit United Methodist Church, 7900 Blue Ridge Blvd., KCMO, 64138 on Friday, February 4 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:00 p.m. Friday at the church. The family requests no flowers but contributions to One Spirit United Methodist Church or the United Methodist Council on Relief (U.M.C.O.R). Reverend Fleming was born December 23, 1926 in Plummerville, Arkansas to Willie H. and Nora L. (Morgan) Fleming and had lived in the Kansas City Area since 1960. He received his undergraduate degree in 1948 from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas and his Masters of Divinity degree from the Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas in 1954. Before moving to Missouri he served multiple churches in Arkansas. He began his Missouri Ministry in Springfield in 1960 then served as Program Director for the Missouri West United Methodist Conference from 1966 to 1974. He served churches in Excelsior Springs, Belton; as well as, One Spirit United Methodist and St. Paul United Methodist Church in Independence until his retirement. After retirement he served various churches as well being an "on call" Chaplain at Floral Hills Funeral Home and a Volunteer Chaplain for the Raytown Police Department. He was an accomplished Pianist and Organist and delighted in singing and conducting his Church Choirs, different quartets and groups along with singing with the Kansas City Men's Choir. He was preceded in death by a niece, Emily Castle. Survivors include his wife, Cherrie Fleming of the home, 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Dr. J. Daniel and Germaine Fleming of KCMO, W. Paul Fleming of Blue Springs, MO, 2 daughters and their husbands, Jennifer Fleming and Jose J. Garcia of Brooklyn, N.Y., Lori L. Sherwood and Allen Flood of Rockville, MD, his grandchildren, John Paul Fleming, Sundena Fleming, Hannah Fleming, Joaquin Garcia, Isabelle Fleming, Johnny Garcia and Ava Flood, a brother, his wife and their children, Dr. Jo L. and Mary Fleming of Conway, AR, Reverend David Fleming of Pine Bluff, AR, Reverend John Fleming of Sheridan, AR in addition to several grand nieces and nephews and loving cousins.
