Sarah Catherine Carroll was born in Shelby County, Mo. June 23rd, 1847, died August 4th, 1920, aged seventy-three years, one month and twelve days. She was married to John Gregory October 16, 1870 and to them were born five children, two dying in infancy. The children living are: W.L. Gregory, Belle Gregory and Mrs Minnie McClure. Besides her children she leaves one brother, B.C. Carroll, and one sister, Mrs. Millie Lee. She came to Arkansas with her parents in 1854 but after her father's death the family returned to Missouri in 1855. She came to Arkansas again in 1866 and has lived near Bentonville since that time. She was converted when a child and was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church at Bentonville for a number of years, later joining the Methodist church at New Home of which she was a member at the time of her death. Mrs. Gregory was taken ill July 20th and hopes were still held for her recovery until Aug. 2nd. She was carefully and tenderly cared for during her illness, her children stayed almost constantly by her bedside. An excellent nurse and attending physician did everything possible for her but God called her to her reward. Aunt Kate, as she was called by scores of relatives and friends, was a beautiful Christian character, refined, helpful, cheerful, sympathetic, believing the best of everyone. It was a benediction to enter her home and be in her presence. Very few of the homes among the relatives and friends who attended her funeral but that had been visited by Aunt Kate as a ministering angel in times of sickness and sorrow. The funeral sermon was preached at New Home church at 3 o'clock, Aug. 5th by Rev. Fryar, her pastor, and was attended by a large number of relatives and friends. The pall bearers were her nephews. Her body was laid to rest by the side of her husband.
