Julie Elizabeth Watkins was born June 22, 1962 in El Dorado, Arkansas to Jill Cole Watkins and Jerry West Watkins. She passed from this life at her home in Fayetteville Arkansas September 14, 2014.
Julie was educated in the public schools of El Dorado. She attended Trinity University at San Antonio Texas and the University of Missouri at Columbia Missouri and earned a Bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge Louisiana, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She later earned Masters' degrees in Library Science and in English Literature from North Texas State University at Denton, Texas and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Julie was employed as a legal assistant in Dallas, Texas from 1987 to1992, and then as a corporate librarian in New York City from 1992 to 1997. After returning to Arkansas in 1997, she earned her most recent Masters' degree at the University of Arkansas and then was employed at the University of Arkansas in several capacities, as a librarian, in the Development Department, and most recently as an Editor of the University Press.
Julie was predeceased by maternal grandparents, Elizabeth and Daniel Carragher of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and paternal grandparents, Daisy and Clark Watkins of El Dorado, Arkansas, by a brother, Jay W. Watkins, of El Dorado, and by two uncles, Jack M. Cole, of Birmingham, Alabama, and Clark Watkins, Jr. of El Dorado. She is survived by her parents and one sister, Jennifer W. Harvey and her husband, Jack, of Little Rock, Arkansas. She is also survived by one uncle, Daniel G. Carragher, II of San Antonio, Texas and one nephew, Robert M. Wilson, III, of Little Rock, Arkansas, and one niece Jillian H. Wilson, also of Little Rock. Other survivors are cousins, David Watkins, Steven Watkins, Kenneth Watkins, Edward M. Cole, Erin Tamplet, and Jacklyn Dale.
Funeral arrangements are with Young's Funeral Home, of El Dorado. There will be a visitation at the funeral home from 4:00 – 6:00 pm Wednesday, September 17, and a private burial at Arlington Cemetery. The memorial service will be at First Presbyterian Church, at 10:30 am Thursday, September 18, reception to follow at the church.
