Fayetteville Man Dies in House Fire

Oscar Greenlee, 37, Route 4, Fayetteville, died Saturday afternoon in a fire that destroyed his rented home near the Wedington community, sheriff's deputies said today.

Greenlee's body was discovered in the southeast corner of the living room near a woodburning heater and in an area serviced also by a propane gas stove and a woodburning cookstove, deputies reported.

No foul play is believed involved.

Greenlee's brother, William "Bud" Greenlee, 50, escaped from the blaze with minor burns, deputies said. Both men had been drinking, and the older brother appeared intoxicated, officers reported.

Apparently the fire was caused by the woodburning healer, Sheriff Bill Long surmised, today. Billie Cale Thurman, assistant fire chief at Lincoln, who discovered the body, could not be reached for comment on the cause.

The sheriff's office was notified of the fire at 3:30 p.m. when the older Greenlee brother ran to the home of a neighbor, Terry England. England notified authorities.

Greenlee was born March 25, 1935 in Fayetteville, the son of Charles and Mamie Rice Greenlee.

Survivor's are one son, Eugene of Long Beach, Calif.; his mother of Fayetteville and seven brothers, Harvey of Springdale, Russell of Tontitown and Lonnie, Bud, Roy, Milliard and Arch, all of Fayetteville.

Graveside services will he at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at White Oak Cemetery under direction of Moore's Chapel.
